Emerald Fennell, an Academy Award-winning director known for her work on “Promising Young Woman,” has a new film named “Saltburn” set to release in 2023. The film stars Jacob Elordi, who rose to fame in “The Kissing Booth” and “Euphoria,” as Felix Catton, a wealthy and eccentric guy. Barry Keoghan, known for his roles in “Eternals” and “The Banshees of Inisherin,” will play Oliver Quick, who becomes infatuated with Felix throughout the film.

Both Elordi and Keoghan have busy schedules ahead of them with upcoming projects such as “Priscilla,” “On Swift Horses,” “Bring Them Down,” and “Masters of the Air.” However, their roles as lovers in “Saltburn” have excited LGBTQ+ fans eagerly anticipating a darker LGBTQ+ thriller film.

While there are plenty of feel-good LGBTQ+ movies and TV shows like “Heartstopper” and “Red, White, and Royal Blue,” the community has been waiting for a darker option. The second half of 2023 has two such opportunities, including “Eileen,” a sapphic psychological thriller starring Anne Hathaway, and “Saltburn,” directed by Fennell and described as “a wicked tale of privilege and desire.”

What is Saltburn about?

Oliver is studying at Oxford University in the early Noughties and struggling to find his tribe. Before long, he becomes obsessed with a fellow student, the charming and aristocratic Felix.

Felix invites Oliver to meet his eccentric family on their vast estate in Saltburn. This British town gives the film its name. According to the enthralling early synopsis, the pair will then embark on a “summer never to be forgotten,” which somehow sounds as ominous as it does erotic.

Who stars in Saltburn?

Keoghan plays Oliver, while Elordi is Felix. Adding to this impressive lineup is the talented Carey Mulligan. Fresh from her 2021 Best Actress Oscar nomination for her role in Promising Young Woman, Mulligan is set to dazzle once more in an undisclosed part. The film also features fellow Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike and renowned actor Richard E. Grant, who takes on the role of Sir James.

Saltburn promises to be a masterpiece, backed by production talents like Josey McNamara, Tom Ackerley, and Margot Robbie—associates from Promising Young Woman and Barbie.

According to an anonymous source, Saltburn will be steamy, with many nudity and explicit scenes. However, the head warned that the film may prove controversial. It will have a controversial ending. So, not everyone will be happy with it.

When will Saltburn be released?

Due to the ongoing Hollywood strike, cinema will have a dry spell for the rest of the year. Nevertheless, Saltburn is set to make its premiere on November 24. It will debut first in New York and Los Angeles before being released more widely on December 1.
