General information about the Soca Valley
The Soča Valley in Slovenia is a beautiful destination with spectacular landscapes. It runs along the Emerald Road and is famous for the turquoise Soča River, which originates in Trenta and leads to Italy. The upper part of the river offers thrilling water sports like rafting, kayaking, and canyoning, while hiking, mountain biking, and cycling are popular valley-wide.

Soca Valley Itinerary
Suppose you are planning a road trip along the Soča Valley. In that case, the best starting point is from Kranjska Gora, taking the route through Triglav National Park to Kanal ob Soči. However, suppose you are from the southern parts of Slovenia, such as Piran or Ljubljana. In that case, beginning your Soča Valley itinerary in Kanal ob Soči or Most na Soči is better.
During your journey, you will come across numerous affordable accommodations. Most of these are apartments, but many backpacker hostels and campsites are also available.
Trenta Valley
Located in the heart of the Triglav National Park, the Trenta Valley is remote from city life’s everyday hustle and bustle. The Valley is known for its natural beauty and wide choice of adventure activities. It’s a valley where the source of the Soca River is. Furthermore, it’s a place of unspoiled nature with a healthy, if harsh, climate. Natural and cultural attractions are located along the entire Valley. So, you can choose between different points of interest, including the Kugy monument, the source of the Soca River, the Mlinarica trough, the Alpinum Juliana botanical garden, and the Triglav National Park information center at Log, which features an exciting presentation of Slovenia’s only National Park with an accompanying collection of folk art.
Tolmin Gorge
The Tolmin Gorge is considered the most stunning natural wonder in the Soca Valley. Hiking through this gorge is an absolute highlight, allowing you to explore the beautiful rock formations and experience the fantastic realistic backdrop. The canyon was formed by two rivers, Tolminkav and Zadlascica, and is one of the most spectacular sites in Slovenia. During your hike, you can pass by landmarks such as the Bear’s Head, the high Devil’s Bridge, and the Dantes Cave and marvel at a thermal spring.

Zelenci Nature Reserve

Boka Waterfall
The Soca Valley boasts of the magnificent Boka Waterfall, which stands tall at approximately 144 meters and is a must-see attraction. The Great Soča Gorge
The Soča Gorge, also known as the Velika korita Soče, is a must-visit attraction in the beautiful Soča Valley. Many people consider it the most spectacular place in the region. Over the centuries, the limestone terrain has formed basin-like swirl pools filled with turquoise-blue water from the rushing Soča River. These pools are known as the large Soča troughs; some are up to 15 meters deep and only a few meters wide.
If you plan to visit this incredible place, bring your bathing suit. An excellent section in this part of the Soča offers swimming in the ice-cold mountain waters.
