About Amalfi coast
Considered an extraordinary mixture of a Mediterranean landscape and cultural sights by Unesco, the region is one of Italy’s most notable destinations. Here, mountains plunge into the sea in a nail-biting vertical scene of precipitous crags, cliff-clinging abodes, and verdant woodland.
Its series of famed towns read like a Hollywood cast list. There’s jet-set favored Positano, a pastel-colored waterfall of trendy boutiques, spritz-sipping models, and sun-kissed sunbathers. Further east, ancient Amalfi seduces with its Arabic-Norman cathedral. At the same time, mountaintop Ravello stirs hearts with its striking vistas and sophisticated villas.
Turquoise seas and cinematic piazzas aside, the region is home to some of Italy’s finest hotels and restaurants. It’s also one of the country’s top spots for hiking, with well-marked trails allowing the chance to escape the coastal crowds.

How to get to the Amalfi coast
You can reach Amalfi by car, train, bus, plane, and ferry. The nearest railway station is Salerno connecting all major Italian cities. Also, direct buses leave daily from the Tiburtina station in Rome to Amalfi.
The closest airport is Napoli-Capodichino Airport, which offers direct flights to/from the main Italian and European destinations (including Spain, France, Germany, Greece, and the UK).
Notes:
- We recommend using the Omnio or TrainLine apps to go by train. Once there, you can also use The Trenitalia, but the first two options are easier for international travelers.
- Important: try to book trains in advance. Prices are lower if you do that. That’s a proven fact.
- If you wish to go by train, check out the FerryHopper app.

The journey takes 50 minutes, and buses run approximately every hour. The price is €7 one way and €13 return. There are two providers of these bus transfers:
1. SITA Bus Shuttle: The most frequent bus company, with a stop in Vatican City as an additional stopover. You can easily reserve your tickets via this website, where it is also possible to book a return ticket immediately).
2. Terravision: These buses run directly to Rome Termini, where you reserve a seat for a fixed time slot, so we recommend booking in advance. You can easily reserve your tickets via this website.
Option 2: Leonardo Express
It is the fastest option to reach Rome. From the train station at Fiumicino Airport, the Leonardo Express takes you to Termini station in 32 minutes (here, you will have a connection to both metro lines). The train runs every 15 minutes and costs only € 17.90. You can book the following tickets to board the train immediately upon arrival. Choose between the three types of tickets:
Option 3: Welcome pick-ups and taxis
You can decide to go to the Amalfi coast with private transfers. However, they are costly, so we recommend them only to the wealthiest.

Another option is to take a train from Rome to Naples. Trains frequently run, operated by both Trenitalia and Italotreno, and the journey for the fastest train takes over an hour. Read on if you want to know how to go from there on.
Time to Naples: 1hr 10 mins (fastest train). One-way ticket cost to Naples: approx. €4o (less if booked in advance).
From Rome to Salerno by train
Alternatively, you can get to the Amalfi coast from Rome by train if you head to Salerno. Salerno is also a good destination if you travel to towns further south on the Amalfi coast, like Vietri sul Mare, Maiori, and Minori. Both Trenitalia and Italotreno run some trains directly to Salerno. But most of the time, you’ll have to switch trains in Naples.
Tip: This one is an excellent option. However, we prefer going to Naples and staying in Sorrento. Sorrento is the best base for discovering the Napoli region’s Amalfi coast and other sights.
From Rome to the Amalfi coast with a rental-car
You can choose this option too. It is the fastest way to reach Naples, Sorrento, or Salerno. What about Costiera Amalfitana? We strongly discourage you from driving there. The roads are exceptionally winding, there is always a traffic jam (especially in the high season), and there are few parking lots.
Getting from Naples to the Amalfi coast.
Most of you will choose this because you will land at Naples airport. So, let’s start.

The schedule is very regular.
Note: Two companies offer excellent connections to the Amalfi Coast and the Sorrento at affordable fares. The first one is Pintour, and the 2nd one is Curreri Viaggi. That’s why we recommend using them.
Getting from Naples to the Amalfi coast with a taxi or a private transfer
These 2 are the most stress-free options to reach this magnificent destination. However, everything comes with a price. Usually, you will have to pay more than 100 euros per ride. Furthermore, it depends on how many passengers are there. The more you take a ride, the cheaper the prices will be.

So, from here, you can reach Costiera Amalfitana by bus. There is a regular SITA bus that connects Sorrento with almost every village. This option is the most economical one. However, be prepared for the crowds.
The second possibility is to take a ferry or even a boat tour. For instance, boats frequently stop at major villages like Positano or Amalfi.
