At this year’s BFI Flare 2022 film festival, newcomer Matt Carter presented his debut, namely In from the side. In the movie, he didn’t want to show another suffering story. Instead, he concentrated on pure lust. So, it’s refreshing to watch a queer film where sexuality isn’t the conflict.

Synopsis
Tensions are already high when an injured A-team player is selected to play with the Bs as part of his recovery. Hard-drinking and macho antics are par for the course amongst the team, but these sturdy athletes soon display their vulnerabilities. Additionally, initial fear turns to a bodily lust for two team members, and personal devotions are further tested as they try to hide the affair from their partners and their teammates. Alexander Lincoln and Alexander King give stellar performances as lovers, alongside an outstanding ensemble cast. So, even if you’ve never played rugby, you’ll be drawn into the drama of these young men. That’s why prepare yourself for a messy, sweat-drenched emotional ecstasy.
