Incredible Myrtos beach in Kefalonia

In this article, we will introduce you to the best things to do in Kefalonia, including the Incredible Myrtos beach. It is undoubtedly the most crucial attraction on the island, rivaled only by Melisani Cave in popularity.

It is located 29 km north of Argostoli. More significantly, it’s like a natural Greek theater, where huge green hills descend into the miraculously blue sea. Lately, it has gained a worldwide reputation. For that reason, it has been consistently included in travel magazines among the best beaches in Greece and the world. Hence, it has received numerous awards for its purity and natural beauty.

Secondly, the beach is well-organized at the most part with umbrellas and sundecks while a small part remains completely unspoilt, ideal for total isolation. However, keep in mind that in the summer, you may not be able to get a sun bed, unless you get there very early.

As you probably know, the natural beauty of Myrtos has become the trademark of Kefalonia and one of the most photographed places in Greece. Its decoration was also included in the film Captain Corelli’s Mandolin—the film which transformed Cephalonia into a world-famous island.

What’s more, the west coast of Myrtos offers spectacular sunset views. As a result, guests can stay on the beach until the evening, enjoying a drink at a comfortable beach bar.

To conclude, Myrtos is easily reachable by any means of transportation. But there’s excellent news: even if you don’t get a parking space near the beach. Namely, you can enjoy fantastic views from above as you go down the coast.

Safety tip

Some experienced travelers warn that the beach can be quite treacherous, especially when the wind and water currents are strong. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you do not go in the water under any circumstances in the presence of a red flag, and be extremely careful if a yellow flag is hoisted!
