Magical Views from the Theoskepasti Chapel

Why visit Theospekati Chapel on Santorini? Let’s find out.

Overview

One of Santorini’s symbols, the Panagia Theoskepasti Chapel, is located near the port of Andres, on Skaros Rock. This rocky peninsula projects into the sea. Multiple volcanoes sculpted it. The rock was also the site of a castle until an earthquake demolished it in the 19th century. More importantly, the white church with a blue dome is open during the day until 4 pm, free for anyone to visit.

Moreover, the village of Imerovigli nearby has some of the best views in Santorini because of its high point. Visitors can reach the church via the nearby walking trail that begins at Imerovigli and runs through the cape that connects Skaros to the village. The trail ends at the Chapel of Theoskepasti. Once you have visited the church, see the Hidden Room. The cave sits to the right of the course and is one of the few remaining fragments from the original castle.
