Brief intro
ABC News has promoted gay correspondent Gio Benitez by naming him one of the network’s flagship weekend program co-anchors.
Benitez, 37, will join Good Morning America as a permanent co-anchor on Saturdays and Sundays, ABC News President Kim Godwin announced in a statement to the network’s news division.
He joins current co-anchors Whit Johnson and Janai Norman.

Who is Gio Benitez?
Giovani “Gio” Benitez (born October 29, 1985) is an American broadcast journalist and ABC News correspondent who appears on Good Morning America, World News Tonight, 20/20, and Nightline. He also hosts the Fusion collaboration version of Nightline. He has won three television news Emmy awards.
Since 2020, Benitez has covered transportation at ABC News, including coverage of the aviation industry during the pandemic, space during America’s private space race, and the auto industry.
Personal life
Benitez and Tommy DiDario engaged in Paris on September 17, 2015. They married in a Miami ceremony on April 16, 2016. DiDario is a fitness trainer and Instagram influencer who has also appeared on television shows, including Rachael Ray.

As the Disney unit’s transportation correspondent, he has been close to the recent movement into private space travel.
