In this article, “Most beautiful Greek beaches,” we will show you some of the most fantastic beaches in Greece, according to our opinion. Of course, we could have put hundreds of beaches on our list, so picking just a few wasn’t easy.
Let’s see them, shall we? And after that, if you are still unconvinced, you can read our article about the most beautiful Greek islands.
Navagio or Shipwreck Beach, Zakynthos
The blockbuster among Greek beaches has everything to stun you. Towering vertical cliffs frame it; even more importantly, the beach has impressive azure waters. Furthermore, it has pure, perfect sand. And finally, to give it an extra bit of character, like a beauty spot on a face, a shipwreck. So, it is no wonder that many world magazines consider it one of the most beautiful Greek beaches.
It is the most famous beach in Zante. It took its name when a ship carrying illegal cigarettes wrecked there in 1983. It can be visited only by boat. Before reaching Navagio, the tour boat stops in the famous Blue Caves, which have equally overwhelming water.
Note: The beach, however, is only accessible by boat.
Balos Beach, Crete
Balos in Crete is Greece’s answer to the Caribbean look. Besides the overwhelming seawater, Balos also features impressive scenery. Located on the northwestern side of Crete, it can be reached by boat from Chania Town and Kissamos or by car through a dirty road. It is one of the prettiest secluded beaches with soft sand and exotic water. More importantly, just off the beach is the remote and uninhabited island of Gramvoussa, with a medieval castle on top. It’s worth taking a couple of pictures for your Instagram photos. And ultimately, sneak a pic in the image below, and you will see why many consider it the most beautiful beach in Greece.
Myrtos Beach, Kefalonia Island
This is the most photographed beach in Kefalonia. It is situated on the island’s north side, near the scenic village of Assos. First, the view from the cliff above is simply mind-blowing. But above all, the beach itself is a wonder as well. You will enjoy the exotic deep waters and the sea view. Finally, it is often featured in travel magazines as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
Seychelles Beach, Ikaria Island
Firstly, this beach is one of the loveliest beaches in Greece. Secondly, it is in a picturesque and intimate cove, 20 km southwest of Agios Kirikos (Ikaria Island). Thirdly, the beach has colorful pebbles, rocks, and emerald waters and is surrounded by dramatic rock formations, creating a wonderful setting. Access to the beach is possible via a path departing from the main road and descending along the riverbed.
Lalaria Beach, Skiathos Island
What words could capture the magic of Lalaria? Skiathos’s trademark has often won the title of the most stunning beach in Greece. Consequently, its fame has spread around the world. Its emerald water and smooth white pebbles beneath the imposing rock formations attract dozens of boats daily, filled with enthusiastic visitors who can’t wait to see it up close.
Voidokilia Beach, Peloponnese
Photos of this beach in Messinia have gone viral. The white sand surrounding the delicious blue-green water is a perfect semicircle that suspects a draughtsman’s hand. The unspoiled environment behind it is another reason this ranks among Greece’s top ten beaches.
Furthermore, the beach is presumed to be Homer’s “sandy Pylos,” where Telemachus was warmly welcomed when he came to ask wise old King Nestor the whereabouts of his long-lost father, Odysseus, King of Ithaca. The unspoiled environment behind it is another reason this ranks among Greece’s top ten beaches.
Porto Katsiki beach, Lefkada
Porto Katsiki is the most famous beach on Lefkada Island, located on the island’s southwestern side. The name of this beach means “the port of the goats.” Visitors must take a few steps to reach this white-pebbled coast with its exotic deep waters. Above the impressive bay are a car park and a couple of beach bars where you can enjoy the breathtaking view of the Ionian Sea.
Elafonisi beach, Crete
Off Elafonisi’s long, wide strand lies Elafonisi Islet, occasionally connected by a thin, sandy isthmus, which creates a lovely double beach. Tucked into Crete’s southwestern corner, this symphony of fine pink-white sand, turquoise water, and gentle rose dunes looks like a magical Dreamscape. As the water swirls across the sands, rainbows shimmer across its surface.
Unfortunately, this natural gem is more minor than idyllic in high summer, when hundreds of umbrellas and sunbeds clog the sand, putting enormous pressure on this delicate ecosystem. Therefore, consider a trip out of season for a more tranquil and sustainable visit.
Agios Prokopios beach, Naxos
Located only 5 km south of Naxos Town, Agios Prokopios is a long beach with striking light blue waters. The coast has namely the finest soft, golden sand. Therefore, it is considered one of the finest beaches in Greece. In the summer, the beach gets very popular. However, due to its large size, it never gets crowded. Part of the beach is lined up with taverns, cafeterias, and studios. Many sports centers also have their base here, including centers for windsurfing, kite surfing, and diving.
Red Beach, Santorini
First, this stunning, surreal beach in southwestern Santorini is backed by blaze-colored cliffs, making it one of the country’s most photogenic stretches of sand. You can access the beach by boat or take a short walk (sturdy shoes recommended!) down from the nearby church, which has parking spaces and a handful of good restaurants. Arrive early in peak season to score a good spot.
Sarakiniko, Milos island
On the northern coast of Milos, you can admire milky white volcanic rocks sculpted into intriguing shapes by the wind and waves. A deep gulf with green water turns every shade of blue as you get further from shore—hallucinogenic!
Kyra Panagia beach, Karpathos island
Kyra Panagia and neighboring Apella Beach are considered among Greece’s best beaches. This beautiful sandy beach lies in a small cove between the mountains and has a fine mixture of white sand and smooth pebbles. Even more importantly, it has exceptionally crystalline waters. It is located 14 km north of Pigadia, the capital of Karpathos.
Voutoumi beach, Antipaxos island
Voutoumi is a lovely pebble beach on the northeastern side of Antipaxos Island. It is inside a large cave, with snow-white rocks covering both sides of the beach. It attracts many visitors from the neighboring islands of Paxi and Corfu, who love to swim in the inviting turquoise blue waters. The water here is shallow, so it is ideal for all ages while snorkeling near the rocks is excellent.
