Posh Mykonos town

Posh Mykonos’ capital is Chora or Mykonos Town, a predominantly pedestrian labyrinth of narrow streets with whitewashed houses. It’s a traditional Cycladic village with bougainvilleas on the walls, small white churches, colorful windows, doors, and balconies.
This picturesque Cycladic town serves as the island’s commercial hub—shops, cafés, galleries, and Greek restaurants now occupy its traditional buildings.

Little Venice

The waterfront quarter of Chora, named Little Venice, is one of the island’s ultimate sunset-viewing zones. Whitewashed old fishermen’s houses (now occupied by bars, shops, and restaurants) back onto the seafront, red and blue painted balconies bulging out over the water.

Mykonos Windmills (Kato Mili)

The whitewashed windmills, built in the 16th century, lined up on a hill overlooking Mykonos Town, are a signature island sight. Out of the 16 preserved windmills on the island, seven are in the area of Kato Mili overlooking the Chora Mykonos harbor. Over here, you will most likely see the island’s mascot, the pelican Petros, or, better, his substitutes.

Shop in Matogianni

The main street is Matogianni (or “Matoyanni”), with boutiques, restaurants, and bars. Follow your instincts around the maze, and if you get lost, keep walking, and you’ll eventually find your way out to the waterfront.

Numerous cafes, chic boutiques, souvenir shops, and fine jewelry shops lie in the lovely capital.
The scenic Town also has an excellent gastronomic scene worth exploring! For a delicious lunch or dinner, look no further than Mykonos Town – it is home to some of the top restaurants in Greece.
Numerous bars and nightclubs can be found in the capital, proving the rumor of Mykonos being a party island. As soon as the sun goes down, the capital’s narrow streets get packed with crowds ready to party and dance all night.

Church of Panagia Paraportiani

The flower-bedecked Church of Panagia Paraportiani emphasizes your stroll through Mykonos’ picture-perfect center. Built between the 14th and 17th centuries, the island’s most photographed church includes five whitewashed chapels across two floors that once guarded the entrance to the Town’s castle.

Manto Mavrogenous Square (Plateia Manto Mavrogenous)

Looking out over the Old Port and marking the entrance to historic Mykonos Town, Manto Mavrogenous Square (Plateia Manto Mavrogenous) is the vibrant epicenter of the island. The square has shops, restaurants, and cafes along its seafront promenade. At the same time, its white-painted, blue-shuttered buildings make for a pretty photo opportunity.

Firstly, let us stress that for most of us, staying in the Chora is a perfect choice for your next vacation since you will be close to magnificent little lanes with whitewashed houses, close to all the bars and shops, and significant sunset view spots. In addition, public transport here is well organized, so you should be able to reach the island’s most iconic beaches (like Psarou Beach or Elia Beach, for instance).

Tip: We recommend booking an apartment outside the leading center for those who like to spend their vacation in the quieter area.
