This time we were focusing on the resort town of Protaras, where you can find many magnificent sandy beaches. Because of its location, it also represents a great base to discover the rest of the island. Firstly, let’s find out a little beat about this bustling tourist resort.

Protaras

Protaras has clear sky-blue waters and sandy beaches, the most well-known of which is Fig Tree Bay. Building on the success of Ayia Napa, located about 10 km (6 mi) southwest, it has expanded into a modern holiday resort of considerable size with tens of high capacity hotels, hotel apartments, villas, restaurants, pubs and associated facilities. Being quieter than Ayia Napa and having less of a club scene, it has a reputation of catering more for family and Cypriot tourism. Cape Greco is a 10-minute drive from the center of Protaras.

Just a short boat trip away is the protected nature park area of Cape Greco. Cyprus’ own Land’s End, it marks the most southeasterly point on the coast and the views from the top of the enormous rock make it well worth the climb. The quiet coves and clear blue water are top snorkelling territory, too – all the equipment comes as part of the trip.

Shop and eat or just stroll along the Protaras avenue

The town’s main street, Protaras Avenue, covers many souvenirs and other fashion shops as well as an international line-up of Chinese, Italian, Mexican and Japanese restaurants. And in between, you’ll find traditional taverns serving up Greek-Cypriot dishes. 

Protaras is no early-to-bed resort. Bars and pubs crowd the main street, most of them with wide-screen TVs showing sports and sitcoms. There are also live bands, tribute acts, karaoke and an implausible number of Elvis impersonators. You’ll also have plenty of opportunity to dance ’till the early hours. But if you want full-on clubbing, then Ayia Napa is just a 10-minute taxi ride away.

Get active in Fig tree bay

Fig Tree Bay has golden sandy beaches, clear diamond shallow waters, attracting thousands of local and foreign tourists during the summer months. The most famous and most popular beach along extends 500 meters long and is 45 meters wide. It includes two natural bays, a northern sandy bay without vegetation and a south rocky bay.

Fig Tree Bay is also the water sports hub round here. Paragliding, water-skiing, surfing, jet-skis and banana boats are all on standby, along with motor boats to take you along the coast. If you’re new to any of them, there are instructors and lifeguards on hand to help.

A beach with supermodel looks, a gigantic waterpark, and standout tavernas are all for the taking on holidays to Nissi Beach. Plus, legendary Ayia Napa is just next door.

Famagusta Tour

Famagusta is located on the north east coast of Cyprus. It was first named ‘Arsinoe’ than, ‘Ammohostos’ in Greek and ‘Famagusta’ in English. It was ruled by many civilizations for centuries. Furthermore, the rich history lies within the walls which surround this Medieval city. That’s where you can see St. Nicholas Cathedral, Venetian Palace, the Church of Latins, which are some of the most important sites to see. A short walk from the center is Varosha, which used to be the hotspot for the reach and famous, like Elizabeth Taylor and Grace kelly for instance. Unfortunately the place has been abandoned ever since 1974.
