Finest Time of Year to Visit Greece for a perfect Weather

There’s no wrong time to visit Greece. Yet, if you’re after warm temperatures, plan a trip in late spring or early fall (April through June or September through October). In May, the average temperature in Athens, the nation’s capital, is about 20 degrees Celsius. In June, things heat up to an average high of 28 degrees; therefore, it is ideal for taking a plunge in the ocean.

In September, the average temperatures drop slightly in Athens to an average high of 28 degrees, with an average low of 20 degrees. October is even more fantastic, with a moderate high of 21 degrees and the average low in Athens at 18 degrees. Remember, the country is relatively large, so check your destination before planning your trip.

Most Popular Period to Visit Greece

Unsurprisingly, the most popular times to visit Greece are late spring, summer, and early fall. It is when the weather is ideal, and all the venues open their doors, inviting guests to stay, eat, and drink.

The most visited months are in summer, especially July and August, but in September, things turn around, and the weather and the sea are still warm; that’s why this should be your perfect time to visit.

Least Crowded Time to See Greece

If you’re not interested in going to the coasts or working on your tan, consider a trip to Greece during winter. While the weather is cooler (the average temperatures hover around 10 degrees), the crowds are much thinner. In 2019, just 500k people visited Greece in January, and a mere 600k came in February. However, many venues and hotels close for the winter (due to the lack of demand), so be sure to search for accommodations in your intended destination to see what’s available and when.

Finest Time to Visit the Greek Islands

Again, the most suitable time to visit depends on what you’re after, but generally speaking, for the most pleasant weather, plan a trip to the Greek islands in the late spring, early summer, or beginning of fall. You can visit in midsummer, but temperatures can get superheated.

For example, the average high hits 29 degrees in Santorini, while the average low stays at 23 degrees. The only upside is the ultra-warm waters during this time of year, with the average sea temperature hitting 25 degrees. Over July, the island also only experiences a single day of rain, making your chances of basking in the sun pretty good.

Cheapest Time to Visit Greece

Visiting Greece on a budget is possible. All you need to do is plan thoroughly. Skyscanner says the most affordable months to book a flight to Greece are September, October, and November. The website added that booking a flight in November could save up to 18% compared to the average yearly flight price. Visiting during the shoulder season (March, April, September, and October) also brings more affordable prices.

What now? Choose your destination, book a flight and a room, and go!
