Alonissos Things to Do

Upon reaching the island, you will encounter Patitiri, the scenic harbor and capital of the island with its beautiful stone-paved waterfront. Two kilometers inland lies Alonissos town with its medieval castle offering sweeping views of the sea, stone houses with picture-perfect courtyards, narrow streets, and several churches that sum up the soul of a characteristic Greek island village. Alonissos town, aka Chora, was the island’s old capital (until 1965, when a devastating earthquake destroyed it). A trail from Chora leads to the church of Agioi Anargyroi, where you can enjoy a lovely walk in the dense pine forest.

Sea lovers will also find beautiful beaches with crystal-clear waters (Megalos Mourtias, Steni Vala, Milia, Chrisi Milia, Marpounta) that promise unforgettable moments of peace and serenity.

The island is also ideal for hiking lovers, with many paths and breathtaking views. Numerous excellent restaurants, hotels, and charming villages make it easy to get off the beaten path and experience authentic Greek life, not to mention some of the finest seafood in Greece!

Last but not least, Spend a day on a boat trip and explore the uninhabited islets around its National Park.
